aggressive blood python

abeercan Aug 15, 2003 03:46 AM

HI,
About a week ago I recieved a 4.5-5 ft blood python from a friend of mine. He got rid of it because ever since he recieved the snake on a trade it has been very aggressive. Whenever i walk by the cage he makes a hissing noise. It kinda sounds like very heavy brathing. When i get it out i have to lay a small book over his head so he doesnt strike. But after i pick hm up he kinda calms down but he is still very jumpy. If there is any movement around while im holding him, he starts to make the hissing noise again. he struck only once while i was holding him, but luckily he only got my shirt. My qestion is do you think he will ever cam down? Im trying to hold him at least 2 times a day for about 10-15 minutes each. This is th first blood python i have owned and i think it is a very beautiful snake. Im hoping he doescalm down because i dont plan on getting ri of it. thanks in advance to all that reply

Anthony

hey hey,

i have delt with a few really agressive bloods before, with the short handling and the daily handling they should calm in a few months,(be careful they are still snakes), try not to use a book i would use the screen lid to block any srtikes but the snake still saw me comming i also would go for the rear half of the snake never the back of the head, you are asking for pain if you do, also they will let you know when holding time is over usually buy hissing, deficating, and biting, good luck with your new "blood" and keep us posred on it
