Discouraged Beginner

About a year ago I tried my first dart frogs 2 Auratus froglets about 5-7 months old, I'd say they were about the size of your Tab key on your computer keypad. I did a year of research and was confident that I knew how to take care of them. I placed them in a 44 gallon corner tank. They had coco bedding some live plants, wood, and a coconut shell for shelter from Black Jungle Supply. Temperature and humidity seemed fine, all was good for a few months. I fed them both species of wingless fruit flies, dusted with calcium powder. I went exclusevly to the larger flies as they were easier to work with. Both frogs ended up dead in the end, one about 2 months before the other, but both the same way. The frogs had their moth open and what seemd to be something inside, a grey ball-like substance. I determined it to not be a rock, but did not know what to do. After 3 or 4 days both were dead. After a quick autopsy, it seemd that it was their insides (stomach) that was sticking out of their mouths--what happened?

Sorry to hear about your lost. It is hard to really figure out what went wrong, but if you try again use these supplements. Rep-Cal w/vit D3 fine powder and Herptivite at a 1:1 ratio to dust your feeders. Mix only small portions that you will use in a week. Did your frogs eat readily up til their deaths? If they don't come out to eat right away, most of the dusting will be lost before the frogs eat them. What I do is train them to come to a certain spot to feed by placing the dusted flies on the same spot everyday. Again sorry about your lost, don't let it discourage you. Find a good breeder for your next frogs that you can contact with questions along the way.
