Hope to get some help from someone more experienced than me. I got this guy as a rescue and he is the darkest ball I have ever seen. He has no yellow pigment (Axanthic?), granite like markings on his sides, and a black head. So what does this make him????

Maybe an administrator can move this to the morph sub-forum. My bad. Didn't see it at first.

If it gets moved there, no one will see it. Post them here - its a valid question.

He may be going into shed, how long have you had him?

Looks like a dark normal.

I mean, it looks like a dark snake...but the pics are not good enough for me to see much of anything. maybe tkae a few outside in the sun, or try using a flash.

Intresting because I have a snake that looks exactly like this and posted the same question in this forum a week or so ago and it seems that mine is just a dark normal or melanistic at best. Hypermelanistic Normal - very nice!!

Just on a side note: If that box in the picture is his hide - you might want to cut it down a bit - balls prefer tight hides - that one appears to have too much "head room" and he might not feel quite as secure as he would in a smaller one.

Now, all you have to do is find out if its a boy or girl? Then get another melanistic(sp?) one of the opposite sex and you will have a nice fun little dinker project going.

Then...3 or 4 years from now youll have 40 or 50 snakes and your friends, family and co-workers will think your nuts!!!

what ever happened to common ball pythons? why are there none left? why is every ball python some kind of morph?

Most are normal. People don't usually post much about them though.

Looks like a normal to me, just one that has gone all dark. My 3 year old female looks about as dark as that one.

I'll try to answer some questions. Had him a month or so. He shed 2 weeks ago but could be starting again. He is a male. The previous shots are with a flash but the new ones are outside. Belly shot and granite(?) markings. Sorry for the quality of photos.
