Ball Python Morph???

rocket May 14, 2007 10:42 PM

Hope to get some help from someone more experienced than me. I got this guy as a rescue and he is the darkest ball I have ever seen. He has no yellow pigment (Axanthic?), granite like markings on his sides, and a black head. So what does this make him????

Maybe an administrator can move this to the morph sub-forum. My bad. Didn't see it at first.

zefdin May 15, 2007 10:38 AM

If it gets moved there, no one will see it. Post them here - its a valid question.

He may be going into shed, how long have you had him?

Looks like a dark normal.

I mean, it looks like a dark snake...but the pics are not good enough for me to see much of anything. maybe tkae a few outside in the sun, or try using a flash.

Did use a flash. Look at last post to see pics in sun.

Thanks.

Looks like a melanistic normal! How bout' a belly shot?

rocket May 16, 2007 07:38 PM

Belly shot

jdmtyper May 15, 2007 11:24 AM

Intresting because I have a snake that looks exactly like this and posted the same question in this forum a week or so ago and it seems that mine is just a dark normal or melanistic at best. You can see pics of mine and a link to my thread here which is now on the second page here in the middle called "Identify this snake *PICS*" Ours looks similar may help you to get an Idea by reading replys in my thread too.

Wow! could be clutch mates they look so close.

Hypermelanistic Normal - very nice!!

Just on a side note: If that box in the picture is his hide - you might want to cut it down a bit - balls prefer tight hides - that one appears to have too much "head room" and he might not feel quite as secure as he would in a smaller one.

Good luck with him!!

Thanks. Picked it up to get picks of him, box usually laying down.

zefdin May 15, 2007 04:52 PM

Very nice.

Now, all you have to do is find out if its a boy or girl? Then get another melanistic(sp?) one of the opposite sex and you will have a nice fun little dinker project going.

Then...3 or 4 years from now youll have 40 or 50 snakes and your friends, family and co-workers will think your nuts!!!

Watch out!! I warned you!

Male.

Most are normal. People don't usually post much about them though.

PHLdyPayne May 15, 2007 08:48 PM

Looks like a normal to me, just one that has gone all dark. My 3 year old female looks about as dark as that one.

I'll try to answer some questions. Had him a month or so. He shed 2 weeks ago but could be starting again. He is a male. The previous shots are with a flash but the new ones are outside. Belly shot and granite(?) markings. Sorry for the quality of photos.
