SUNLIGHT... Big difference really!?

photojoe May 15, 2007 07:40 PM

Does exposure to natural sunlight really make a big difference in color? Or is it very subtle?

Same with feeding high Vit A foods like carrots? Big or subtle?

If so, how much frequency should i use to get the most benefit from sunlight? 30 min once a week? 2 hours?

Thanks

Only in dragons that are housed outdoors, not temporary exposure.

Not knowing for sure, I'd say that it would take at least 2 - 3 hrs of sunlight daily to make a slight difference.

Have a good one!

High Vitamin A foods are not good for Beardies as they are suceptable to Vitamin A Toxidity. I have a 5 x 3 outdoor screen cage and put them outside a couple times a week for a few hours. I can't say I really notice any significant difference in their color verses the winter when they can't go outside.

the betacaratine thing may help a little bit but I doubt it makes a huge impact. Also, high levels of it are harmful to bearded dragons.

For sunlight exposure, to get the best benefit, is to keep dragons under sunlight constantly. As this isn't practical in some areas, about 4 hours of sunlight exposure per week works well as a UVB substitute. More certainly won't hurt.
