Snake in the toilet

fisherk2 May 16, 2007 11:41 AM

This isn't about a cornsnake, but a different escape artist. Any info would be great.

You know the little holes under the rim of your toilet that shoot water into the bowl when you flush? I just found my juvie kingsnake crawling into one. There is no way for me to reach him unless I smash my toilet to pieces. How do I get him out? I put a dish with some bedding and a hide above the water level, and I de-thawed a fuzzy hoping the smell will draw him out. That is the only idea I can come up with. Is there any sort of smell or chemical snakes hate that will force him out somehow? I really want to catch him before he gets hurt or moves on to a different part of the house.

Thanks for your help!

How did it get in there??

We have holes in our couch here and my snake got in the stuffing once and was not going to come out for anything. This is pretty disgusting but i thawed a fuzzy in hopes she would come out and she didn,t so then I put it in the microwave for a few seconds.

Haha I know this is gross (put papertowel over it) but it semi-exploded in only a few seconds. I then took the thing (which REEKED) and within seconds she was out in hunt mode. DONT LET THE SNAKE EAT THE MOUSE THOUGH, just lure it, I'm sure that it would have burnt the snake if she ate it.

The porcelian in the toilet will act as a heat-sucker, drawing heat away from the snake. This is why it feels cold when you touch it. So, take advantage of this....

The snake will probably start seeking out warmth pretty quickly, so I'd suggest you turn the water off to the toilet at the wall, then scoop most of the water out of the bowl. Empty it as much as you can and fill it with something, like paper towels, enough to pack the toilet hole closed.
Then stick with the hidebox idea, maybe a small box with a tiny hole cut in the top, then put a pinky in it. Do not put a hole in the side, as the snake will more easily find it as an exit. Put the hole in the top center of the box.
If it's nice and dark, the snake should smell the pinky, find the hole, eat the pinky, and hang out in the box for a while. Check it every few hours or so.

Good luck!
