Substrate?

I use a compressed coconut fiber substrate and I was wondering witch substrate is preferable when it comes to heat conductivity? My substrate is about an inch thick between the heat mat and the ground and my air temperature is only reading about 82 to 85 on the hot side. Would it be safe to say the substrate will more than likely be warmer than that?

yes, the surface temp would be more than the air temp over/under the heating element. use a temp gun to measure those surface temps and you can know your temps exactly.
