We need more detail to help you, like what age of jungle, what size of prey, etc.

sorry for not giving all the info. he is this year babies i would guess about 18 to 20 inch long.i breed my own mice, so i started with real small pinkies and have tryed up to about a 2 week olds. my female eats the 2 week old pinkies with no problem.but the male just wont eat. the guy i got him from told me not to worry but i just dont like when my snakes dont eat.

Give it a hopper, a lot of carpets wont eat stuff without fur...

jgjulander Aug 16, 2003 12:09 PM

That's easy, just give hima fuzzy or a hopper. Same thing happened to my friend last week and he tried a fuzzy and the snake almost killed himself trying to get to the fuzzy too fast.
Good luck, and patience is helpful, as sometimes it takes some time.

We're not mind readers. Obviously its a Carpet (hopefully), but other than that, we have ZERO to go on.

like what are your temps (high's and lows/day and night)? How is the humidity (40-70% should be ok)? Is the enclosure a suitable size (large enclosures for babies usually stress them out and they won't eat)? Is the animal housed alone? Are there proper hide areas both in the high and low temperature zones? These are some of the basic care needs that may help the animal eat. Also, don't try to feed the animal too many times too soon. If the snake doesn't eat for you leave it alone for a few days, make sure the environment is OK, and then give another try. If you try to feed it everyday without success you will just add more stress and compound the problem. Hope this helps.

getting nice colors too. I have this one that I may keep that has a wild looking pattern. Well, thanks again for the nice comment and I'm glad to hear your happy. By the way what are you working with now. I know I've seen you had the scrub bug bite you but I remember seeing your ads for some carpets. Are you scaling back on the carpets to concentrate on other areas? I saw you had ball python eggs also. Just wondering what your areas of interest are now. Talk to you. Frank.

Well I did get bit pretty well by the scrub bug, and currently have about 10 from different locales, species. I really am intrigued with them and would love to breed them and try out my early taming technique to allow them to be better represented in collections. They get a bad rap, and if I could produce some dog tame babies, I think there would really be a market for them. I still dabble in carpets, but have sold all of my breeders. I currently have 0.2 02' and 1.1 03' jungles. 1.1 03'coastals, 1.1 breeder size Irians and your dxj. No luck with the Papuans this year...better luck next year.

i have 1.1 babies in a 40 breder, is this to big for them right now. not sure on the humidity, temps during the day are around 80 to 85 and at night around 75 to 78,they have a really big water bowl, and hide boxes on either side side of the tank,i also put in plenty of branchs for them to climb around on. if i need to change anything please let me know. i have boas, corn sankes and gopher snakes but this is the frist pair of jcp i have owned. thanks for all the help.

jgjulander Aug 16, 2003 12:16 PM

I would also give them a basking spot with a higher temperature. DO you have an undertank heater or a light for basking? If so, what is the temperature directly in the hottest area. A thermalgradient is important and hotter temps will definately help. It is important that they can choose the temps they need or they won't do things like eat or poop. Give the snake a choice and they will do what they are supposed to do.

Babies as in 03' hatchlings? If so, move them to some shoeboxes/rubbermaids and they will feed I'm sure.
