Northern Blk Racer..

Steve_Craig May 16, 2007 09:48 PM

Went hiking this past weekend and stumbled upon this guy. I was so busy trying not to spook him, I neglected to see that there was another racer right under my feet in shed. I did spook him, and he shot right over my foot and under a steel beam. These Racers were located in Charles City co. Virginia. Steve

Nice snake. Charles City is loaded with Black Racers, especially Chickahominy WMA. I herp there a lot and see Racers on almost every trip. Mean little bas-turds.

Thanks Sky. This particular location was at the Harrison Lake National Fish Hatchery. From New Kent co. I took US 60 and turned on to 106 South. I took 106 South all the way until I reached route 5. Then I Turned left on route 5 and it's about a mile. I didn't go to the Lake section. I hiked along the trails around the fish hatcherys. I may try the lake area this coming weekend. Yes, you have to love Blk Racers. Always happy to see you.
Also wanted to add that the Black Ratsnake that I posted over on the ratsnake fourm is a Va. locality animal, but I'm not positive on the exact co. If it's the breeder I'm thinking of, it may be Rockbridge co., but I'll have to check.
