New CH yellowbelly male

JenHarrison May 16, 2007 10:42 PM

My little CH yellowbelly guy just arrived this morning...he's so tiny! His belly and flames are amazing, I'd be floored if he doesn't prove to be a genetic YB. I can't wait to breed him next year.

Sorry, I went a little pic crazy...

Wow, he's gorgeous. I'm assuming he was handpicked? I can't imagine him coming in an "unsorted/unopened" bag.

Also, what exactly IS a yellowbelly? I'm new to all this morph talk, although I've kept snakes most of my life. I'm assuming they have a yellowish belly? Anything else?

The seller also had a CH orange ghost and something else up for sale, so I'm guessing they were handpicked. Yellowbellies create ivories when bred together...

Two yellowbellies create THAT? Really? What kind of trait is it? I mean what are the odds of getting one like that?

It's a co-dominant trait. If you breed a yellowbelly to a normal, you'll get some yellowbellies and some normals. Yellowbelly to yellowbelly gives you ivories, yellowbellies, and normals. Ivory to yellowbelly gives you ivories and yellowbellies. Ivory to ivory gives you all ivories.

Odds and luck do come into play and you may or may not get the desired outcome.

Ah, I see.

But how do you know a yellowbelly when you see one? Just a yellow belly?

No head dot.

JenHarrison May 19, 2007 10:52 PM

Do you purposely follow me around?

His whole head is faded, and I see that on CB Yellowbellies too. Not all have a distinguished dot. I also stated that he is a CH unproven, so I'm not claiming him to be a guaranteed YB either.

Jenn,

There is no doubt he is a genetic Yellow Belly. Good addition, he is gorgeous. Congradts!

Definate yellowbelly--and a smoker to boot.
