In 86 when I worked at Ft Worth Zoo, Blody and I planned a trip to Terlingua area in October. We told ourselves and everyone else we were going to get props for exhibits, after all, no one would go collecting in October. We left mid morning and got to Marathon about sundown and started seeing snakes before we got to the park. By the time we got to Study Butte we were stoked and headed for the RR. About a mile west of Lajitas, we saw a snake on the edge of the road. We both said ALTERNA at the same time. I got stopped about 5 feet past it and we jumped out. Blody took off running and was nearly back to Lajitas when I got him stopped. The alterna got off the road but we waited for a short time and it broke from that narrow strip of grass on the edge of the road and crossed the gravel spance before the rocks at the base of the cut and we snagged it. Nice young adult female. I really thought Blody's head was gonna pop off. We saw nearly 40 snakes that night and were there for 3 or 4 more nights and never saw another snake. A front came through that night or the next morning and all those snakes where moving in front of the front. You never know when it is gonna happen.
