The price of crested geckos varies...seen prices anywhere between $35 to $250 US, depending on age, colour/pattern and sex. The other factors for higher crested costs is demand. Since crested geckos don't lay 100's of eggs in a season, limited to 2 every month or so, slowly to bring up a high population compared to say, bearded dragons who lay up to 30 or more eggs 2 to 6 times a year, a potential total of 180 eggs.
There are a few issues that affect the price.
And most have been adressed already.
First let em say that for what you are getting I dont think the prices are high. Look at this. You have an animal that is cute as a baby, a blast as an adult. Tollerates being handled with no bad attitude. Can be fed a diet that does not include live insect. does not need a large special set up with uv lights or heat. and can be purchased for under 100.00 for most common varieties (colors/morphs).
Compare this to the bearded dragon who has 10 times the number of eggs per year, and the price is close to the same...you see that Cresteds are actually a good deal.
That being said...There are not a lot of people that are raising cresteds on a large scale. The females lay fewer eggs which means that you have to have 10 times the number of females, and corespondingly high number of males in order to raise the same number of babies. So that is 10 times the mouths to feed, take care of, have space for, etc.
So I would say that at 65-100 each (price I see on KS Classifieds for common cresteds) you are looking at a heck of a buy.

I was quite surprised at the prices of Rhacs at the daytona show this past weekend. A couple of years ago, the prices were quite high, then they dropped suddenly. I am thinking that the prices we are seeing now is the stablization of the prices. Either that or they will go in a rotating wave like beardies do. Some years it is a seller's market and others it is a buyers.
