Power Outage and bacterial filter

zhiv9 Aug 15, 2003 10:22 AM

Just thought I'd let everyone with aquatics know that if your power was out for more than a couple of hours(pretty much everyone on the eastern seaboard), your bacterial filter will have mostly died off, this will cause spikes in ammonia and nitrite levels. It would be good idea to do a couple of extra water changes in the next week. This especially applies to anyone keeping fish.
