Look what I found today....

I found this while I was on my route today....I think it's a water snake but it has the "triangle head" of a venomous snake.

I am not real familiar with any of the water snakes escept for the northern water snake. But I think it looks like a brown water snake, they do get pretty big I believe.

Actually it does appear to be a northern water snake (Nerodia sipedon)-where are you located?

Guess not that familiar after all...

Some watersnakes are somewhat hard to identify by looks alone, without locality data. But it does look to be a Northern Watersnake(Nerodia sipedon),..... or possibly a form of
"erythrogaster"

In any case,....it's just a harmless watersnake, and nothing venomous!. They typically flatten their heads in defense when feeling threatened.

Also,.....the Brown Watersnakes(Nerodia taxispilota) are much more distinct looking, having a tannish brown coloration with VERY distinct square shaped blotches/saddles on the back.
