Iguana acting weird.

wulfyoukai May 18, 2007 12:55 AM

My iguana is about four years old, and slightly under 3 feet in length (is that unusually small?).

She suddenly does not want her stomach to touch anything she's climbing over, walking around like she's about to go to the bathroom, except not. The stomach also looks a little bloated to me, and when I felt it she kept shying away (usually she's more tolerative).

I figured she might've been constipated or something, so I put her in the tub with some water to make her go to the bathroom. She did, but only a little, and it didn't seem to relieve her actions very much. I don't think it's eggs, since she's been spayed for 2 years now.

Any advice? Ideally I'd like to get her to a vet, but my parents aren't exactly thrilled with that. (Though if this turns out to be serious, I'll bring her there myself, darnit.)

Also, can anyone describe / have a picture of what "iguana fungus" looks like? My iggy does have little black spots, and I don't know if they're natural or not.

If there is any chance that she could have ingested something
I would take her to the vet. You didn't mention anything
about her care like food, lighting, etc

She does seem small for her age as I have a 4 year old who
is about 4'. Have you ever taken her for a vet check? If
you haven't it probably is time. Tell your parents that it is
your responsibility to seek care as you are her human and she
depends on you.

Keep us posted

I think that's a possibility, as she once ingested an eraser that I didn't know about until it passed.

Her diet mostly consists of kale, mustard greens, romaine lettuce, with fruits and, lately, Keebler crackers as a snack. I don't keep her in an enclosure, but she's not exactly free-roam since she just hangs out in one corner of my room on a platform we installed above the window for her. There's a basking lamp for her, but she seems to prefer lying in the window for sunlight through the screen, and she doesn't get any night lighting.

The last time she's seen a vet was 1 year ago when she was spayed (not two like I said before; I checked). I asked about how small she was, and the vet said it was kind of unusual, but that she was healthy anyways. He didn't say anything about the black specks, either.

Today she's acting more normal, though I still think she looks bloated.

Thank you for your response!

Could it be eggs-retention? I cant remember the official term, someone help me out here.
Anyways, go to vet!

She was gravid once before, she had to have surgery to have the eggs removed, and then she was spayed. I don't think she can develop eggs again...?

Another picture...
Yes, she's on a lamp. Don't worry, it's never turned on when she's on it!
