Hatchling

FlatsFeet May 18, 2007 08:47 AM

Hey all,
Last october found small hatchling in our encloure, spotted him again in late march, but have not seen him since. Would you expect him to con't to be so reclusive at this point ? I've looked around a little bit for him and am wondering if i should go ahead and do a full blown search so that i can make sure that he is eating.

Opinions welcomed

Thanks

JOE.

Given that young box turtles are easy prey, I wouldn't expect your little guy to be out and about until he gets to be quite a bit bigger, which may take a couple of years. Or more. They spend much of their early life hiding.

Hey Steph,
Do you remember our conversation(s) last fall? You were quite helpful with the hibernarium and everything went great over the winter. Even got a glimpse of little guy in march, he was out and about for a short period of time, however I've not seen a trace since then. I figured that by now (6 or 7 mnths old) he would be more visible. Just a little concerned that he's getting enough to eat, although our enclosure has some naturally occuring isopods and some worms.
sounds like you don't think i need to turn the place upside down to look for him. he's survived this far on his own, so......

Steph, would you please rec a calcium supplement. I assume i can obtain @ pet store ??? any naturally occuring items that would help? My guys wont eat greens at all. Feed crickets every 6 mnths or so. we do have some small snails in the yard which i've been thinking about gathering. Thanks for your response.

JOE

I think that somebody already mentioned Rep Cal (see link) as a good product, or you could use cuttlebone.
