OT - New Animals

run26neys May 18, 2007 11:06 AM

My two female spotted pythons arrived today. They were very aggressive, and I feel lucky I was only bitten once. Thankfully they are still very small, and it is almost funny watching them trying to bite everything.

The first one is the female I wanted, and the second came along to split the shipping costs. Depending on how the second one looks after it sheds, it may actually be the better of the two.

I also had to rethink who goes where, as I am picking up another pair of BRB's that will arrive next week.

Congrats on your new additions Mike. If you don't mind me asking where are you getting your pair of brb's this late in the season cuz I believe you are getting little ones not sub-adults or anything right?
Bob

The brb's are 06's that were listed here in the classifieds - the male is 100% het for hypo.

Best advice I can give you is get your het. hypo from Mike (I think Dave might have some hets available from a breeding loan also) but Mike's hypo's are gangsta!!! I got a female from him this year and she is in shed again which puts her at her 6th (this one coming) and here is a pic from her last one outside in the daylight

I believe your het hypo male was purchased from EBN (50 miles from my house) and you want a little different blood so I would go elsewhere for that but best of luck

Yes, the male I got is from ebn, but I bought it from someone who had bought it from them. I took some time to make it was in fact the het hypo ebn produced. Prior to buying it I had been in touch with Mike, and he even knew/knew of the bloodlines of my animal. I even contacted Dave too. I try to do research on things before I jump in. Except for my first brb (that was a total impulse buy) that got my brb bug going.

Yes - it is an addiction. If the cage manufacture was a public company - I would buy stock in it.....

I may have to rethink my stand on no rack systems.....

I do LOVE my various racks for subadult and non-breeding adults. Only drawback is you have to pull drawers to check vs looking in windows. But you can house many more in a smaller area than you can with cages. Still love cages for breeding and larger adults.

and I have to say has made me from an admirer to a wanna be snake collector. I have grown very envious of Dave's collection and the best way to get those knockouts is to get nice animals and keep your keepers lol. I went from wanting to have only about 10 or so snakes to plan on having about 40 in about 5-6 years after some acquisitions and breedings which I never planned on breeding but what is better than having the first pick in a litter, I can't think of anything. So if I have learned one thing from Dave it is "it's all about quality quality quality and that's what every snake is in his DISTINCT collection is"

thanks Bob, I really have been working really hard toward building a collection of mostly exceptional animals. As with any group there will be some that stick out as wow and others that don't. As time flows, those that don't stick out will be replaced with ones that do. A never ending process!!

And yeah, being to get first pick of the litter is way cool. Amber, Phoenix, Hook, Diablo, Lucy, Rose, Lon and even Daisey (was Howards holdback he eventually sold) are all pick of the litter babies.

Bob,

Thanks for the nice comments. Your hypo is looking great! Does she have a name yet?

her beautiful even though I think I am a great surrogate father lol I figure when the time comes it is gonna hit me hard like on the forehead or something but I'm not into rushing into names or anything even though it has been a couple months and some but I will eventually get around to it. She has a great appetite and her disposition is getting better even though she was never bad she just don't like me taking pics of her. Thanks for asking and best of luck in the birthing season

Nice looking little snakes. Are spotted pythons the same as childrens pythons?

run26neys May 18, 2007 01:14 PM

Very close the Children's. Spotted's should not lose the coloring as they get older. Most spotted's and children's have been crossed, so it is hard tell what is a pure animal. True Children's are more rare and a bit more expensive.

Sharp looking pythons! How old are the BRB's you're about to get? Are they a breeding pair?

The brb's are 06's, so I am a ways from breeding. My other brb'd are an 06 male from Jeff Clark and an 07 female I picked up in March. The spotted are all 06's too. The Cal King I have is for my step-daughter, so it is not for breeding.

Hey Mike,

Congratulations on the spotteds. They Rock! Good luck getting your BRB project off the ground. You should be producing some killer animals ina few years. In the meantime, I'll get to work on breeding the GTPs O.K.
