A Tommy . story

Herpo May 18, 2007 02:50 PM

I can't remember the year, or even the decade - probably late 80's, early 90's.

A bunch of us were herping around Langtry when Tommy and Snooks came into town. They had been herping in the Big Bend. The weather was dark and foreboding. Then it began to rain, heavily. About sunset Tommy said "To heck with this, I'm heading back to Eastaboga."

About 40-50 minutes later he came screaming back into Langtry. We were hanging around Chamberlains, since there was no herping that night. Tommy got out of his van holding a large dark phase blairs which he had found swimming on the Pecos River bridge.

Tom got me started in the school assemblies business which I am still doing full-time after 32 years.

He and Snooks got a gravid annulata off a cut near Langtry which later laid eggs. The babies hatched out to be annulata X alterna hybrids. I looked at the babies at his house in Eastaboga and that's exactly what they were.

Cheers,
