Pueblan ready to breed?

wvherp May 18, 2007 07:50 PM

Will an 06 Pueblan be ready to breed next spring? He is about 18-20 inches right now, feeding every 5 days on 2 f/t pinks. He actually ate 3 small ones yesterday.

Probably yes but actually impossible to say for sure. I have had many many pueblans breed at 18 months but some take 3 years (well 30 months) even when they have the size.
Its a indv thing with them.

i would say yes he could well be ready in that time frame and like shannon said their is also the possibility of him wanting to wait a bit longer.
another factor will be the female you put him with, iv seen many young males that are ready and willing getting constantly bucked by the female no matter how hard they try. the females were definatly ready but just didnt want a youngster doing the job and were quite happy to hookup with an older male.

so he may get the job done or may not, when the time comes try him.

I have a slew of 06 hondurans and pueblans I've acquired over the past nine months that are all around the same size (17-20 inches). I'm trying to get them ready for next year. How big should the females be before they can safely breed?
