O/T Baby!

waspinator421 May 18, 2007 09:55 PM

About an hour ago I checked on my incubator, and this little face was looking at me!

In this last picture, it appears as though he/she is a Star Trek fan. Almost has that hand sign going on. LOL!

What I found interesting was that the egg remaining in the deli cup is actually a dud. What is weird is that it never went "bad" so to speak. When candling it, there is nothing in there, not even redness. But it never shriveled and never got moldy. Anyone who works with egg layers have this happen?

Here is mama, Gimp. She has a few toe-tips missing from her previous owner... not enough humidity.

And here is papa, Booger.

I love this time of year!

Nice pics Aubrey. What is it? Mama Gimp that's so funnylol looks like she has a fat a$$ I mean tail so is it a fat-tailed gecko or something along those lines? About the Star Trek comment ain't it the truth haha. If you have Cox Cable they have re-runs of Star Trek on Spike TV all day long during the week so make sure they get their daily dose ok

Thanks Bob... it is a Leopard Gecko. Yeah, her name is Gimp because her previous owner rescued her from a pet store that she was working at. She had a stuck shed around her leg that started to cut off circulation. The store never did anything about it even after she wasn't using it as much. Well, she took her home and nursed the gimpy leg back to health, and named her Gimp. I took her in when they didn't want to take care of her anymore. My male gecko was happy to meet her! LOL!

Beautiful! Those close-ups of the heads are especially spectacular! What camera are you using?

Thanks Renee... its just a Canon Powershot A510. A little 3.2 megapixel point and shoot. Sometimes I hate the thing, but it takes decent pictures. I'm just itchin' to get me a digital SLR... I used to have a manual SLR that took some awesome pictures, even had different lenses for it. But, it got stolen a few years ago. Sigh.

A digital SLR would be sooo coool! I'm too shaky to take great close-ups, unfortunately! (Unless I rest the camera on something, or use a flash, which wrecks the lighting!)

Yeah, I love my DSLR, so easy to take decent pics with it. I waited watching how slow the original digital cameras were. I knew it would drive me nuts it my cam was that slow.

that's why I can't get no tongue shots people. I have to press, hope and wait but it don't work. I even try to time their tongues but they don't cooperate either so maybe one day I will upgrade cuz after seeing some nice pics on the boa forum especially close-ups and the detail- there is nothing like it.

Nice looking litttle lizard you have there. Leopad geckos were the first animals I ever bred and your post is making me kind of nostalgic for them. In fact, all this OT stuff is getting to me lately. It's taking every bit of resistance that I have not to purchase some spotted pythons and leopard geckos. Please, no one post pictures of Rhacodactylus auriculatus

Thanks Mike, LOL I know what you mean. The first animals I ever bred were Cockatiels. So now whenever I see them at the pet store, I get fond memories of those times. Getting up at the butt crack of dawn every day (even weekends!) to hand feed the ugly little pokey babies. It was so worth it.

You mean like these guys?

The first two is of my yearling male, bought him last year. He's sleeping, but has nice color when he sleeps, can't see that yellow when he is wide awake.

The last picture is my two-3 year old female. Woke her up for the pictures too...I need to do a good photo shoot of these guys.

Nice lizard. I used to have one and I miss him so much. It seems like a lot has been learned about how to keep and breed these guys since those days though. The people at the shows make it sound like a snap. Maybe some day soon.

*WEG*

I find gargoyle geckos very easy to care for, just as easy as crested geckos. Only real difference is gargoyles seem to need a bit more protein but that is all portioned out with the gargoyle gecko diet by t-rex

cute geckos

I would still incubate that second egg. I think they are hard to candle after a certain amount of time, which may be why you can't see anything. I have had gecko eggs hatch several days apart before with my crested geckos.

waspinator421 May 19, 2007 01:43 PM

Yeah, I left it in there just in case. I'm not so sure, though, because it's had the same yellowish look inside the whole time. The other one got red and veiny... and you could see a dark spot late in incubation. But the perfect nature of the egg has me baffled, so it'll stay in there a while longer.

Absolutely uber-cute! Although most people look at me funny when I say reptile babies are cute. Are you going to call this guy Spock? I have tried breeding my crested geckos but they are on a break for right now. Congrats!

Thanks Jess. LOL.... Spock! That would be a perfect name. I won't be naming him, though, as I feel that is a very dangerous thing to do for something you do not intend to keep. LOL!
