I am glad that the bill died. Texas has some great herps and some good collectors there that I call greatd friends. Now Texas needs to be proactive and police its own, we in Florida have went through the same sort of deal not to long ago. Believe me they will just keep trying to get it passed. If Florida they used many thing against us like cases filed such as reports of bites, civil cases (for sold reptiles), importers being scammed, illegal reptiles and stolen reptiles being sold at shows basically anyhting shady.

As long as Texas weeds out the shady charactors that give the whole industry a blackeye all will be well, Don't allow anyone give the State lawmakers anymore ammo then they already have.

So Justyn, you are telling us that Mr. Berry is wrong? That the bill was basiclly delayed not defeated?

This is the same thing that happened here in Florida, They (The Lawmakers) kept trying and trying and rewording until they got it. Texas herpers you most protect yourself now. Go to every meeting and police the trouble spots.

These are some of the things that were spots of concern.

1 cage size
2 reported bites by keepers
3 escaped animals
4 animals of concern Large pythons, Hots and monitors
5 shows and the sell of animals to minors
6 sales of stolen animals at shows
7 Record keeping of sales
8 number of unpermitted keepers

There was other points but these were the biggest ones. Fwc was kind enough to listen to all of us permitted keepers and our suggestions and they are going to allow us to "POLICE" the matter to a point. So start to clean up the mess now and take the ammo away from them, Once they start to clean it up they will not stop. Do not support anyone that is a problem or go to any show that doesn't screen the venders. I know this sound harsh but think about the other option. People that have hots today won't have them tomorrow and the cost of the permits is not low.

Good luck to all of you

I read on another board the HB 1309 DID PASS.
In the other post it gave a name of a setnaters aid to call. I did make a phone call and was transfered to the bills commity and I talked to Terri and She told me that the Bill DID PASS.
oN THE FIRST VOTE IT WAS 4 TO 3 AGAINST AND TTHERE WAS A REVOTE AND IT PAST WITH FLYING COLORS.

i WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU ALL CALL THESE PEOPLE AND HEAR FOR YOURSELVES.

Hilderbran's office - 512-463-0536
Seligers office - 512-463-0131

These are the numbers on the other site, I called both and was told the same thing....That HB1309 passed.

TexasReptiles May 21, 2007 04:59 PM

WRONG!

It hasn't been voted on yet.
It is not on the Intent Calender.
This comes from Michael McKissack with Sen. Seliger's office.
This call was made at 4:51pm cst today.

The last day for Senators to vote on bills is Wednesday, May 23 at midnight.

We are watching the Intent Calendar to see if it comes up. It's not on there for tomorrow.

Lawson,
Your quote:
"oN THE FIRST VOTE IT WAS 4 TO 3 AGAINST AND TTHERE WAS A REVOTE AND IT PAST WITH FLYING COLORS."

The vote was, 5 Ayes, 3 Nays. So it was 5 votes FOR (to pass it) and 3 votes against.

Bill fails to pass the Senate Committee.

Here is the video link

Natural Resources Senate Committee

The vote is at around 43:40 minutes.

Ok, Berry.

Then why did 2 different senate aids from 2 different senators tell me the very same thing? Were they lying to me? I quoted Micheal word for word and they repeated it back to him and told him it would be posted here in this forum.

Berry, he read your very first post and say "That is a lie, the bill passed".

But I will call him again in the morning and See whay he says about your last post.

ldblawson May 22, 2007 09:11 AM

Mr. Berry.

I beg to differ with you sir. This is a paste and copy of the thread starter here, this post was made by you sir.
