Perched on Sagebrush

oldcrota May 19, 2007 12:03 AM

I found a nice male Crotaphytus collaris perched about 2 feet off the ground in a rather poor doing sagebrush today in northwestern New Mexico.

That's a great photo!

If anyone would like to send me pics for locality collaris I will incorporate them onto my Mountain Boomer site (www.mountainboomer.com). I haven't updated the page in a while but I'm getting a trickle of pics I need to put up there. I plan on doing a major overhaul over the summer.

I should be getting more pics of Wichita Mountains NWR boomers TOMORROW!

VERY cool, just a real nice shot, he's quite handsome. Looks like he's a cross between yellowhead and bicinctores, ???

In any case he pretty AWESOME looking sitting there.

Yesterday oldcrota took me out to where he saw the male posted above. In about a half mile section of road, from the car, we saw 7 males and 3 females. 2 of the males were juvies, and we noosed one to get a good look, then set him free. The color variations in such a small area is amazing! I got a nice shot of a big blue male with orange on his head, the first like that I have seen in these parts. Thanks for sharing your special place with me. I intend to go and visit their home frequently!

Incredible shot, keep them coming. You should post the one of the collared basking on the cow pie.
