New Plan for Ig Kennel

reptileszz May 19, 2007 05:50 AM

Hi all, thought I would post this up higher. We have a new plan so you can disregard my post down below.

We think we are going to extend the deck out another 3 feet and put the kennel cage on there. So the floor will start out as pressure treated lumber (will simply use those u-shaped nails to attach it to the deck. Now my question to anyone who wants to think about it with me is:

What to put on top of the pressure treated lumber (decking) that will be easy to clean but be able to tolerate rain/snow/up to 4 months of freezing temps?

I have thought about tile but am actually leaning towards indoor outdoor carpeting but am afraid it might rot the decking faster if it just sits out there after a rain.

For those unfamiliar with New England weather, we have long cold winters filled with snow and ice, followed by rainy spring, followed by humid summer, followed by dry fall and back to the ice cold.

Thanks!
Carole

try apoxy resin , i have used it to create a seal in a salt water tank madoe out of cinder blocks (2ft H X 3 Ft L X3Ft D) and inside coated with an apoxy resin and it stood the test of time 8 yrs in salt water 24/7 algea and all that good stuff before i had to take the tiny exhibit down and it never harmed teh fish ... so i imagine this could work for your decking as well , it dries smoothe and is resitable to anything except fire .... the best place to get this kinda stuff is at a marine shop where they sell repair apoxy and paint ... they should have it but it runs fairly expensive ....

carole,
I dont have any recommendations but i used outdoor carpet for my cages and could not keep it clean, it hold lots of bacteria, and my one ig kept getting sick. I changed it out and got rid of the problem. something to consider
