New members of the household......

gray May 19, 2007 04:02 PM

Well, some of you probably thought I died.....and surely some have wished it were so......but I'm still here. I won't yet proclaim that I'm back. This may just be a brief visit. Been a crazy year but the end of my school year is in sight so relief is ahead. The boas are driving me further into madness this year. Notice I said further. I'm not sure what I'm going to get this year if much at all. However, I did get an interesting litter on Thursday afternoon to start off my season on a good note.

Jungles het for Squaretail are here. 15 babies and 3 unfertilized. On first inspection, it looks like 11 or 12 are carrying the Jungle trait. Both traits have good track records regarding the three C's: clean, color, & contrast. I'm liking what I see and I look forward to seeing what happens when the Squaretail trait is homozygous. How will the tendency for thin, connected dorsal saddles play out with the Jungle trait? Stay tuned. Oh, I almost forgot to mention. The babies have white tipped tongues. Yep. If you don't look closely or don't have a good contrasting background, it appears that their tongues lack forks but if you view on a good background you see what is going on. Neat. One photo here and then lots more at the link below. Have a super Saturday night but be safe out there.

Those are really interesting, should be fun to see what happens in the Jungle Squaretail. My interest would be to see what a Super Jungle Squaretail looks like.

Simply a fabulous litter. That Jungle in the middle sure does stand out from the crowd. Too bad I'm a poor boy, or I'd make an offer on that one.

Thanks for sharing

They look really nice. I think you are on to something by crossing the two. You should get some great increased pattern and color. Sweet project!
