5 babies still won't eat.

reptileszz May 19, 2007 06:28 PM

Hi all, the western babies are now nearly 4 weeks old with no intention of eating. I have only tried frozen thawed and today a toad scented frozen thawed pink. What is the recommended next step? Live? brained? Keep trying the scented? I have obtained a small American Toad for scenting purposes. (have tried feeding in enclosure and in small deli cup.

Thank you,
Carole

Did you wash the mice off first with baby shampoo and rinse well before scenting? That really helps get off the mice scent. Otherwise try tuna water or a anole for scenting. Simetimes live pinkies work better than frozen to get a snake started.

Well, only 4 weeks....you are doing good. I had 5 born on March 2nd. Of the five only 2 have eaten. The others are alive and kicking, just being brats. Try dipping in tuna water. The 2 that started eating responded to that. They were quarky though. One became a ravenous eater. The other had to "drink" water off of the pink before it would eat...go figure. You may want to try live pinks until they eat good and then switch to f/t. I would not worry to much at this point, as long as they do not get dehydrated. Just keep trying. What works for one, my not work for the others.

Thanks for the encouragement guys! It has been several years since I had a clutch and had mostly forgotten how finicky these guys can be. I seem to remember months going by before the 2 ate at the very same time.

Thanks again, will try tuna next!
