This is one of two I found today. This guy was mean. I chased him for about five minutes before he decided to fight. I hooked him and he came up my hook at me. He bit my camera and me 3 times. They just never play nice, do they?

Excellent pics. Love the bluish ventral shot. Sky, are you finding most of your racers in open fields, deep woods, or edge habitat? Also are you finding them under cover or out in the open? Thanks.
Steve
All of the above - except "deep" woods. The one in the picture was found in a gas-line clearing. There were woods on both sides. But it was hunting in the clearing. Once I chased it out of the grass and into the woods where it had no cover, it then coiled up and stood its ground.
I find quite a few in old fields near woods edge. I've found some in sparse woods around water.
I happened to flip another Racer last evening when I went to a junk field. It had taken cover under a large piece of tin, along with an Eastern King Snake. That junk pile is decades-old and is in sparse woods near a neighborhood.
I've never found one in deep woods, but that doesn't mean they aren't there.
Great Pic's as usual Skychimp !!!
