Herping question

VicsVariables May 19, 2007 10:55 PM

How many of you have been bitten by a venomous snake while out herping? Just curious. I enjoy finding snakes and lizards while I'm out and about, but I don't usually look for them under cover. I usually do my best to warn any unseen rattlesnakes that I'm coming by tossing pebbles down the steep rocky path before descending to my favorite swimming hole.
I'm hoping to get a digital camera soon so I can take pics of the critters I find.
Best of luck to you all.
Vicky

I got tagged from a cottonmouth in '83 while canoeing, not really herping, but still dumba$$ me tailed it thinking water snake in low light, boy was I wrong! Got tagged by an atrox setting up for a show 3 years ago, that was fun...NOT! Many close encounters with atrox in the field, walking up on them not seeing them while they were therming, reached over to flip a rusty road sign to notice the atrox laying on top, many don't rattle, as if you caught them napping. 20 years apart isn't too bad when you factor in the numbers, but let's just say, if I had to do it over again, these are two things I would have done differently, live and learn, or die! Cameras are an excellent option, wish I had that option way back when! Remember kids, take pictures, not crofab!
