Hollywood & Milksnakes

Dan_W May 20, 2007 02:41 AM

Just the other day I saw the movie "Blueberry" on cable TV... They had several snakes featured in the movie, including what appeared to be a Nelsoni or Sinaloae. I remember having had seen milksnakes in other movies, including Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" (albino Nelsoni or Sinaloae) and "Collateral Damage" (either a Sinaloan or Nelson's).

It seems that colorful milsnakes are often used when the film makers want the uninitiated to see the snake as being highly venomous or dangerous.

What other movies have you seen that features milksnakes?

One of the Jurrasic Park's had a peublan in it and I think the King Kong remake that came out a year or so had a really nice large sinaloan in it as they were climbing up a cliff, if I recall correctly. Yeah, you'd think they have more of those in movies. Cold Creek Manor had a bunch of snakes in it, including some alterna, corns and a few pythons but no milks that I recall.

indiana jones (Raiders of the Lost Ark) had a whole load of different species kings milks pythons boas, in one scene even an indian python was made out to be venomous and even made a great rattling sound, you never know, with all the hybridizing going on a real rattlerphon may be used in the future. lol.

In one of the Star Wars, they've been on cable non stop, theres a B&W Cal king. I think it's when Luke goes to look for Yoda. (wow I sound like a geek)

Remember the milksnake in Pirates of the Carribean, Dead Man's Chest? The scene where the pirates are in the round cages, trying to climb up the cliff. One of the pirates grabs the milksnake instead of a vine (and then he freaked out!). I remember leaning over to my young niece and whispering, "Oh, that's just a harmless milksnake!"
There was an albino burmese python in the witch's swampy home. I also told my niece that those, too, are non-venomous. I guess I'm a pain to watch movies with, but I don't want my niece afraid of all snakes.

I was a loyal watcher of HBO's "Rome", and got a big crack up when one Roman tough guy dumps a bag of HIGHLY VENOMOUS cornsnakes & milksnakes on a rival. Gotta love the entertainment industry for their undaunted devotion to realism & truth.
