Weird Yellowfoot pair

EricIvins May 20, 2007 07:10 AM

These guys were imported from Guyana in February. They have some different features than your typical Surinam/Guyanan YF's. Different shell shape, head shape and head scalation set them apart. Hopefully I'll be able to find a few more and establish a group or two. They almost seem to crave interaction, and will let you know if you aren't paying them attention

a variation of yellow foots that I have seen pictures of. They have a common name something like 'giant forest yellow-footed tortoise'. I can't remember. I know Mark Lucas had some pics on his site, but I think he's updating it right now. Anyways, they were much larger than regular yellow footed tortoises and had different shaped shells (I believe). I think I remember them also being much darker, but that might have just been the picture that I was looking at.

I mostly just thought the rear of the shell looked similar. Not sure if they actually are anything alike.

Great looking tortoises though.

I don't believe these guys to be Basin Yellowfoots. They will probably bulk out more, but the Male for the most part I feel is done with any major growth. The Female is young, and will double in size as she ages but I don't think she'll be 20" plus monster. I could be wrong though?

Well I have one egg from her today. Hopefully she'll continue laying through the night. She doesn't seem to be quite " out of it " yet, though she is very slow and deliberate in her movements when I was in the pen. Alot of yawns, so maybe I'll find the rest in the morning?
