Black Gap last night

rak May 20, 2007 11:19 AM

About 2p.m yesterday I was doing my usual checking of the weather. I always use the point forecast and check the river and Blackgap. Anyway I noticed that they were calling fo Highs around 90 and a low of 65 with 11 p.m temps of 77. It also called for the area to have t-storms. Anyway I had not spent any money on gas the last several days, so I left Del Rio at 5.

All the way to Sanderson it was cloudy and very cool, but around Marathon the clouds started to break just a LITTLE.

7:50 P.M in the flats on 385 south I see my first snake. I almost did not turn around as I was sure it was just an atrox that was coiled on the road. I did anyway as I was still afraid it might be the only snake I saw that night. Flipped around and get out of the car and what do you know but it was a large female heterdon that was barely alive. Not 2 feet from it was a smaller male that was also hit . I figure the car that passed me not 3 minutes earlier had hit the pair breeding .

Rest of the Night (till 1am)
4 Atrox
2 Hypsies
1 Sonora
1 Suboc
2 Rhinos
1 scute

I would guess weather was perfect, Storms were all around and around 10:30 the lower road was hit with sprinkles and the upper (Around the wardens house) got hit a little more (above stillwells was pounded). Temps stuck to the upper 70's lower and middle 70's upper.

That sucks. I'd rather not to even have seen that.

Good report Rob. Sorry about the poor hogs, I can totally invision in my mind how bent out of shape you were when you found them. Get that spare room ready, I'll see you in a few days.

Other than the hogs, not a bad night out there.
Sounds just about normal, from what I've heard and seen.

I would have been pissed about the hogs... not mad.. PISSED!
Other than that sounds like a good night.

Hope all is going well with the business.

Take Care,

Steven
