Q about Zoo-Med Powersun

the_reptilian Aug 15, 2003 12:55 PM

I am in the process of getting all the supplies together that I need for a small group of ackies. I plan on using a 6x2x2 trough and an 18” x 18” Kane heat mat with a rheostat for heat. I am wondering if I just need one Powersun over the warm end or if I might need to use two. One over the warm end and one over or near the cooler side. That way they are in the UVA/UVB zone more of the time. Any suggestions on this setup or another type of light that might work better in this situation.

Thanks,
Jeff

I do not think it is necessary to use something like that in a trough, in fact, from what I recall about Powersuns it may be dangerous. The reason to use a trough is to provide deep substrate, 16" or more in places.

I would suggest to stick to the basics, use a flood light of some sort. The kane heat mat would be unnecessary too, it is easier to put the trough somewhere with controlled temps, and just provide a hot spot.

Good Luck,
