Tiny Bugs On Eggs

cito Aug 15, 2003 12:57 PM

What used to be 9 eggs has dropped to 3 healthy eggs, 6 of the 9 eggs were laid in a clump altogethor, 3 of the 6 are starting to rot and attracting tiny little bugs like mites on the eggs. Can the little bugs hurt the eggs? What should I do, detatch the good ones from the bad and risk kiling them all?

How long were they incubating? If it is close to hatching time then the good eggs should still pull through. Either way seperating attached eggs is not going to happen w/o damage to the good ones. As for the fly larvea there isn't much you can do except gently brush as many as you can off each time you see them. As again you don't want to damage the good eggs. Also you may be suprised some of the eggs you think are bad may turn out to hatch. last yr. I had 3 embryos that just developed slower but would have lived if I had not jumped the gun & slit them the yolk dried then as you know. If the smell isn't to strong then keep all the eggs.
