What does your fecal test results have on it?

Bezzerra Aug 15, 2003 01:16 PM

I just got my $47 fecal test results back and the only thing it lists is the following:

OVA & PARASITES None Seen

Shouldn't it list more than that? I thought for that kind of money, I would get a list of things they checked for. I shouldn't be complaining, atleast my beardie is parasite free, but I wanted to know if you all got the same for your exam results.

The test was called: "Exotic Wormcheck"

Them are some good words to hear! Best I can think of when owning a few dragons They should have done a float and also a smear. Not sure how much more they can tell you from what they see. The place I goto is $14 for a float/smear or only $10 for a float. Guess I am VERY lucky in that department Have you checked this site for another vet in your area?

Good luck and glad to hear the good results

I live in Montgomery, Al and the next closest herp vet is 2 hours away in Birmingham. Someone here on the forum recommended I call the humane shelter to see if I can track down a vet that helps take care of wildlife, like squirrels and such.

Never heard the word "float" mentioned before or a "smear" for reptiles. What's the difference between that and a wormcheck?

47 bucks for just a fecal exam is insane.
this is why i do my own.
even though my vet only charges 7 bucks for fecal exams.

but those are good words a clear fecal exam is a good thing but i would say get three more over the next 2 months to be sure.

again this is why i do my own.

like i told someone before i was chatting with the microscope and supplies to the fecal are pennies when compared to the education it takes to know what your looking at.

god i am over educated hehehe

where are you located again. if you close enough maybe i can do a few for you to save you some pennies since you obvivsoly care about your dragons health and i help those who help themselves.

the words float and smear refer to how the feces is viewed under the microscope and how it is prepared on the slide.

a "float" is when the feces is put in to a liquid (differant people use differant chemicals for this) and the feces is then stired up ect. than the eggs of some parasites float to the surface of the liquid and a coverslip is place over the liquid touching it, the eggs stick to the cover slip

a diect smear is when feces is put directly on the slide and usualy stained to view the fomrs of parasites that do not float such as Giardia.

the prcess is kinda simple the veiwing and finding is a little harder the indetification is the tough part (when new at it)
