under skin mass near vent

I have a melanistic E. Hognose snake with growth under the skin near the vent.

Any help?

It could be anything, especially without a better description or seeing the snake in-person (and even then, you'll need a vet to diagnose and prescribe a treatment).

Is it cranial or caudal to the vent (toward the head or towards the tail)? What is the texture, colour, firmness?

It could potentially be an abcess, cyst, or a mass or tumour. All of those need a vet to treat them, however, and the longer you wait to have the snake seen the worse it could potentially become (and the worse your bill will be).

Check www.arav.org if you are not familiar with any good herp vets in your area.

The mass is cranial. It is under the skin and firm.
