Babies - New and Old (Dial-up Warning!)

wetceal May 20, 2007 08:34 PM

Well only a few weeks old that is!

The T Positive Nics 100% Het. Anery Type II that we produced have been doing great and we've also had a few more litters born since then. I figured I would take the opportunity to share photos of all of them at the same time!

After the T Positive Nic surprise, we had a very nice litter from our male Sunglow (from the Burke's Lipstick line) bred to a female triple het. Snow. The babies from this litter have some spectacular coloration - from the normals all the way to the Sunglows! And, everything is also 50% possible het. Snow so that's a nice little bonus too.

Then just a couple of days ago, we had two litters born on the same morning. The first litter was a female Super Hypo that was bred by our male Leopard Boa. I was anticipating this litter because I was very curious to see how the babies would turn out.

Well, mom had a great litter of 21 live, healthy babies, 1 still born, and 1 extremely kinked baby that needed to be euthenized - NO slugs! And, all the babies were born HUGE! There were no runts in the litter at all. I couldn't believe how big these babies turned out! They also all have amazing, intense coloration and very cool patterns, especially on their heads. The best thing about this litter was that ALL the babies are Hypos that are 100% Het. Leopard! No normals, no possible hets., etc. - ya gotta love Super Hypos!

After we finished putting all the babies away, it was 4am and we were beat. We glanced at one of the other females before turning in and saw that she had started giving birth. This was our female Anery bred to one of our male Motleys. Her litter was not as perfect as the earlier one but we still ended up with a few awesome babies. She ended up having 12 live babies - 6 Motleys 100% Het. Anery and 6 Normals 100% Het. Anery, 6 under-developed still borns, and 12 slugs.

Fortunately, mom and all the babies seem to be doing well so I'm definitely not complaining! Some of the Motleys have really nice patterns as well. There's one particular individual that's very dark colored which I think should make for some nice Anery Motleys!

So I would say that we had a pretty good weekend. We've got a few more litters due over the next couple of weeks so I can't wait to see what else pops out. One thing's for sure though - it's starting to get even busier around here!

Since I took a TON of photos, I'm going to break them up into a few different posts.

Here are the updated photos of the T Positive Nics...

And here are some photos of the babies from our second litter...

Some Hypos het. Albino possible het. Anery - these babies are dripping in pink!

A female Albino 50% possible het. Anery - this girl almost looks like a Sunglow!

A male Sunglow that has yet to shed. His coloration is extremely intense so I can't imagine what he'll look like after he sheds!

Here's a comparison shot between the extremely colorful Albino and the Sunglow

Here are some pictures of the Hypos het. Leopard. Of the 21 babies, the sex ratio ended up being 7.14 which is pretty good! They have cool eyes too!

They have really colorful tails and bellies too!

They all have het leopard heads!! thats awesome....wonder what the hypo gene is going to do to the pattern of the leopard!>>??

wetceal May 20, 2007 08:42 PM

I thought that was pretty cool too. When I was going through them to pick out which ones to photograph, I really couldn't pick and choose since they were ALL really cool looking! Every single one is just super colorful with cool patterns. There are two or three individuals that have very white background and stand out among the group.

I'm not sure what the Hypo gene will do to the leopard pattern. I was wondering what it would do to the het. leopard patterns since het. leopards usually have a very distinct look to them as well. It doesn't look like it affected the pattern very much in this case although there are a few aberrancies.

Hopefully we'll find out in a couple of years!

Thanks,
Celia

I notice that when leoaprds are crossed with colombian blood, they do not look as distinctive as leopard to sonoran normal or from het to het...in our albino leopard dbl het litter, the babies all look like albino colombian hets....only one looks likes a het leopard should look

And lastly, here are some photos of the Motleys 100% Het. Anery...

Thanks for looking!

First off, great litters, so many pretty boas. I like how the Hypo het Leopards turned out, I hope to have a litter next year so I am glad I have some idea of the outcome.

I also wanted to know how you euthanized the baby? In my litter I had 3 that ended up with kinks. One is not fully developed (very tiny), another still has a soft belly, and the third is badly kinked (however he shed). I was planning on waiting to see how they do, if they shed ok and eat I will try and keep them or give them to close friends (not to be bred of course). Still I know I may have to put them down, because I wouldn't want them to suffer if things don't look good.
