air sac behind leo leg

jamster May 21, 2007 05:12 AM

ok, so far my leo hasnt really gotten better, he's eaten from time to time but still isnt taking to mealworms or crickets, and i've been scouting all of the pet shops around here for silkworm breeders but they say they will have to speak to them before giving out names etc. but, i decided to get my leo out to change the paper towel in his humid hide and noticed like a little air sac behind his front right leg. it doesnt look like its filled with fluid, as it wrinkles very easily when he walks and doesnt bulge or look like its going to burst, but is this something natural or not? google didnt give me much help. also, my leo seems to stay on the oppposite side of his UTH now, i move it underneath him every now and again because i noticed he was always sat on the opposite side to it so thought he might have been cold, and the heat pad doesnt get to hot, it's only warm to my touch, and through 4mm of glass, and an extra 6-8mm of sand, the sand doesnt get much warmer either. anyone else encountered this?

I have had LEos well a Leo like this once, it was a few years ago. It was around 99 and I had been a member of Kingsnake for a few weeks when I noticed it. I came here and some well quite the few people told me that it was normal or at least not a bad thing.

Sorry for the lack of info but I forget what they said it actualy was, I think Im not sure but I think it was just a deposit of fat.

Fat deposits is correct. I had the same experience with my current leo - she got this, I came here and asked about it, and was told that it's actually a sign that she's healthy and well-fed.

wow now i'm quite confused...he hasnt eaten as much as he should be. a single cricket has been in his cage for quite some time now, even shed its exo-skeleton or w/e it is. it doesnt bite my leo though, anythign that touches him, my leo's flicks until it's stopped bugging it. might it be something to do with the waxworms he had from a while ago, like the lack of food now has i dunno..."activated" fat reserves or something, but, if its nothign like an illness, suppose it's all good ^^

Double check the setup..it 'MIGHT" have been the wax worms but I doubt it ( thats causing it not to eat) its probably the cricket thats left. Flush it or find a bush outside with a spider living in it..( one of my favorite pastimes was dropping ants in spider webs in bushes hehe)..and feed him a good meal. Unfortunately I would say give it a few days with out food..its not gunna affect it if its healthy it sounds cruel but it is not at all. He should come back around and take food again, I guarantee you will see that cyst or what have you come and go.

mm i used to grab handfuls of muds and ants and throw them around the schoolyard when i was young xD lol . i'll try leaving him without food for 3 days or so n see if he decides to eat it, but that's the onyl food there is in his cage, and i decided if he eats the single cricket, then he'll want the others i have, but he hasnt touched it in a week or two lol. not even the mealworms, and then they all caccooned and died lol. thanks for the help anyways, guess i'll have to wait n see =)

whats up with waxworms? can they somehow damage the animal or what?

amoredelmorte May 23, 2007 07:04 AM

If you use them as a staple diet constantly everyday and ever morsel of a meal...YES..other wise they are not bad and can be used once a week or so.

nile_keepr May 24, 2007 12:15 AM

Ok, thats what I figured. I mix them in with mealworms every so often so the geckos cant just pick them out.

Im guessing Super worms are much the same?

Why is it that they are so bad? High fat content the problem?

jamster May 25, 2007 06:28 AM

yeah there full of wayyyyy too much fat for a leo to be healthy, i havent experimented with much other than crix, mealies and waxworms. and found waxworms to be the worst, yeah my leo loved em, but now its all he likes.
