Citrus Ghost

jimmyeo3 May 21, 2007 05:04 PM

So i have heard that the het citrus ghosts look different then normals, does this mean it is a Co-dom trait in which the "hets" are visible like the pastel gene? Or do they look different in that they have markers like the piebald such as the belly stripes? Anyone?

they look different because Gulf Coast selectively bred them into a super high gold line which is genetic. So basically you are getting 2 genes in one snake. Both of my het female citrus are exceptionally high gold along with my citrus male. Each generation that they bred these animals, the better they get. They have also bred this gene into their pastels and black pastels, which cause them to pop. Our male pastel and male black pastel are both results of them crossing those genes into this high gold line and it's very noticable. I've attached pics of my male ghost, male pastel and male black pastel so you can see how it influences these other genes. My goal is to produce a citrus black pastel using the animals that we've acquired from them. I hope this info helps you out.

for those that have seen these pics, I'm sorry to repost, but I thought they were fitting of this topic. I'll get some new ones soon.

Didn't I see somewere that they are or might be compatible with other ghost lines just that orange gene that makes them look diferent or am I way off and its total diferent gene.
Very nice group of snakes by the way and the Vanilla is killer too.

compatibility will be known for sure this year. The thoughts behind it are that the original male was imported the same time that the other lines were from the same person from africa from the same area. Only time will tell, but I think they are compatible and if so, breed these into existing orange lines and watch them pop. If not, well it's another simple recessive trait that imho looks better than the other lines of ghost/hypo that will do some amazing things with spiders, pastels and axanthics.
