Bully Male?

tjw May 21, 2007 05:43 PM

Hi, I was wondering is someone could give me some suggestions. I picked up a pair of adult proven pair of Beardeds this last week at a reptile show. The vender i purchased them from said they were proven and living together. i got them home and put thim in there new enclosure and the male got warmed up and started biting and tearing up thr female. He will display everytime i walk in the room. I know i probably bought someone elses problem but is there anything I can do. Any tricks to calm him down to coexsist with another dragon. Is it possible that moving him to a new enclosure set him off to set up his new territory? Can I add two females to change the dynamics? Just getting back into dragons and I would love to make this pair work but i realize some individuals can be difficult.
Thanks Tom

hes most likely just stressed out from being moved around everywhere. hes in a new home, new place, new owner, so stress level is probably high with him. id just give him a couple weeks to calm down and im sure he will be fine. the chances are there you may have bought someones problem dragon but i doubt it. id leave him be for a week or so, then try to handle him a bit yourself and seee what the outcome is. then if all ok, try reintoducing the female

This will start controversy. But, the male needs to claim his territory. Then the feamle should be introduced into his territory (enclosure). The female will instinctively understand that it is his territory and will become submissive (again if she was before) rather than fight for dominace. Neutral territories only create problems.

Thanks Everyone, I will wait a while and give it a shot. He seems to be calming down towards me walking in the room.
