No Teeth

Kingofspades May 22, 2007 02:44 AM

If that snake had teeth, that kid would have been a pile of twitching meat from the first strike.
(Lovely imaging eh?)

Either way it's not very cool...
but then again, maybe it's some sort of religious ceremony to them. We don't know the whole story...so...

I also figured that the snake is defanged or atleast deglanned. But still if it hit the kid in the eye just the force of the blow could cause serious damage. Also it is just cruel for both child and animal. I can understand a custom or spiritual ritual, as I do respect everyone for their beliefs and customs. Just the initial shock factor of seeing this video and what it portrays! It is a crazy Vid.

It has obveasly had it fangs removed witch unforchenaly is a comen practes in Indea . David

ginebig May 22, 2007 05:59 AM

I'd go along with the devenoming (venomoid?)idea. Defanging isn't as safe as one might think. I'm not sure about cobras but most front fanged venomous snakes have pairs of replacement fangs already growing in and folded back behind the set in use. In any case it looked pretty cruel for both parties involved.

What exactly were you looking for when you came across this video?

Keep in mind alot of real young people are on here also and the link may contain other stuff also that might not be appropriate.

Maybe I am getting over protective in my old age.

No offense meant here at all, but if kids want porn and they have internet access, they'll find it without Josh's help. There's nothing that can be done. And with that said, let the pussification of the world (particularly America), continue....

zefdin May 22, 2007 10:30 AM

You are probably right, however, the key words you said are "If the kids want porn"...

I filter the porn sites away from my 10 year old so he doesnt stumble accross them. At 10 I seriously dont think he wants porn, due to the fact that he hasnt even reached puberty yet.

I allow Kingnsnake through the filter because it is supposed to be porn free.

Also Ryan, the "pu$$fication" or whatever you said, I have no idea is not relavent to this discussion.

What is relevant is that I dont want my 10 year old, and there are probably even younger children on this site, veiwing this material. Its relevant because its in the Kingsnake TOS, or maybe following the rules is being whimpy to you too? By your rationale Ryan maybe we should hand porn out on the corner"cause they'll get it anyway"? I think not.

With that said, I believe Josh didnt mean any harm and no offense was taken.

RyanT May 22, 2007 10:56 AM

I understand what you're saying. I agree. I don't want my 7 year old son looking at things he can't totally understand yet either. But I do explian things to him with 100% honesty when the subjects arise. That's what we as parents are supposed to do. Just making a broader statement about pretending things don't exist doesn't help anyone, especially children. It just makes them confused, scared adults. This topic is just fresh on my mind because a guy I work with just got in trouble for telling a few off-color jokes during a training session he was instructing. A bunch of adults offended by a few curse words. It's so stupid. I just don't get "adults" that truly think the world is Romper Room. It fascinates me.

Anyway, nice offshoot. Back to the balls. I just got 8 more eggs yesterday morning from the female I was expecting to lay. Day 29. Woo Hoo! Figures the freakin camera died a soon as I turned it on. Could have gotten some nice pics too. Oh well. Just got a new battery, have 2 more clutches coming over the next 2 weeks, and my first clutch hatching hopefully in the next 3 days. So there will plenty more photo ops. Take care. Good luck with whatever you have going right now. This time of year is just the reward. I love it.

Thank you I did not mean this post to become such an hot issue away from the topic of reptiles. I was only interested in the video because it was such an amazing thing to witness.

joshuaamills May 22, 2007 09:02 AM

I thought about that after the fact... Hind sight is is 20/20!

I was actually looking for any cool pics / videos of reptiles/snakes. Google search came up with that one.

zefdin May 22, 2007 10:36 AM

No problem Josh. I thought it was kinda funny.

I did want to give you a heads-up, because if you dont have very young children, you may not even think about these knd of things.

I've actually seen that before - and like most people my first reaction is of course "what idoit does this?!?!?!"

But when you consider

1. the animal was defanged and for the most part harmless - certainly less harmful than say a dog or cat and if we saw same child doing that to a dog on Americas Funniest Home Videos we would laugh our asses off.

2. Cobras are a big part of these people culture and who am I to pass judgment on their culture - I'm hoping this is in some way meant to teach the children respect of these creatures.

3. People see my small children holding our snakes and think "what kind of idiot does this".

But to post it without pointing these out might lead the less intelligent to think it's ok to play with cobras - but I guess that's where Darwins theory comes into play.

I agree... I was shocked at first too, but once i thought about it, the snake had to be defanged. WIth a kid that young, I think a snake bite would hurt enough to make that kid scream bloody murder.
