Tiger Retic came into the pet store

BRB_Russ May 22, 2007 08:57 AM

I dont own any super-big boids (just a could red-tails) but i was hanging out at my local pet store and a guy brought in a 6-8' Tiger Retic. He said a friend found it in his garage and the dude sold it to the pet store for 50$. . .

I'd just like to say DAMN those things are a pretty snake, it was very tame and handleable even though it hadnt eaten in a while, i have to say if i were to get one of the big 5 it would be the Retic.

One question though, i know back in the day Retics were kinda known as one of the more nasty big boids but i've heard that a lot of agression has been bred out of them, Is that only in certain lines of retics or is it universially true. The pet store guy said that Tigers in paticular are known to be less agressive then some of the others... . .

Thanks!

that is true for almost all retics now days depending on who u get it from and if they get alot of attention from the start the more u handle them the better they get and the opposite applies to that as well

So just like any other snake, if it gets handled often and is in good condition, fed etc and it brought up correctly, you'll have minimal chance of it being agressive

Its not that Retics are aggressive but that they have probably the most aggressive feeding response out there. Even a "tame" retic can go bezerk if you screw up or get lazy during feeding time or if you have them out with the scent of food around. Just be careful and use common sense and you should be fine.

You know, i noticed that. because when it came it it seemd fine to be handled but i was looking at it (it was in a vision cage) and as i watched it i found it was actually stalking me, it was coiling up and moving twards me slowly, im thinking "this thin intends to eat me . . ." So i had the manager feed it. but even so you could tell if i opened that cage it was going to wrap me up . . .

the key to owning one is to remember to break the fead responce befor u reach in that meens hook train him or her

I've owned three different retics. All different localities, none were aggressive... unless food was present. It mainly depends on how often you handle them and if you're feeding them on a regular basis.
