hey all,

i've got a female eastern (less than 2 years old) that has a fast growing (noticeably larger in a week) symmetrical mass approximately 1/5 to 1/4 of its length down from the head.

i'm scouring the local vets (arav members in minnesota) to see who might have snake radiology and surgery experience. in the meantime i'm looking for input from you all to see what types of precautions might be specific to indigos (anesthesia, antibiotics, etc.). my guess is i'm not likely to find someone with drymarchon experience, so i'd like to be able to sidestep any pitfalls ahead of time.

thanks for any help offered,

matt

Matt, Dr. Steve Barten with the Vernon Hills Animal Hospital in Vernon Hills, IL has a lot of experience with Drymarchon (especially mine!). He knows his stuff (one of the top herp vets in the U.S.) and could provide some good consultation for you, or, a vet in your area if they need to talk to an expert. From my own experience, Fortaz works well as an antibiotic as amikacin is sometimes a little harsh on Drymarchon. Here's Steve's contact info:
