western hognoses DO bite

lrptls Aug 15, 2003 03:19 PM

i read so many times tha hognose snakes DONT bite, but the i saw pictures of a man who was accidently bitten when feeding and said ok, they do bite, but not on purpose, till the other day, i was taking pictures of mine, moving him around, he didn't like it and gave me a quick little bite, luckily his fangs didn't go in. So just remember they DO bite, there venom isn't dangerous but i'm tiny and who know who may be alergic to it.

Mine bit me like the day after i got it. i had the smell of an earthworm on my finger and when I picked him up he just started chewing it. I don't believe that they have any venom because It felt like just any other snake and yes those inlarged teeth in the back got into me. I bled very slightly like normal and nothing happened. i just thnk there saliva is just like that of a water snake or garter snake. Garters have been known to just bite a mouse and the mouse died from the saliva. And waters will cause you to bleed a lot.

Hognose do have venom, this is fact.

How a person reacts is going to be different, for instance you could have little or no sypmtoms, I could die. Though the latter would be from allergies and the odds are probably a trillion to one.

Oh, it is a proven fact? I thought it was one of those like some believe it some don't.
