Just wondered what the average size or age is for attempting to breed Hondurans? Is it more important for them to be a certain weight rather than be of a certain age? Thanks!

The majority of mine will breed at 2 yrs (2001 hatches breeding this spring, for example) but three years should be optimal. I like my females to be at least 400 grams before i put them into brumation preceding breeding, though 300 grams can suffice, and i saw one female that weighed less than 300 grams and was a proven breeder. That's very unusual. Typical hondurans whose instincts & body readiness are telling them to breed will eat VERY aggressively after brumation, and may add 25 to 50 percent to their body weight by the time--several months later--that they're ready to start putting with the males.

Thanks Terry!
Just thought i'd ask as i have an albino female now approaching one year old and is already 300g, it has to be the fastest growing colubrid i've ever owned!
Thanks again!
