This Memorial Day Weekend...

Erik - NM May 22, 2007 11:16 PM

My friend Max and I will be in alterna country this Memorial Day weekend. Plan is to get to Sanderson around 9ish and hunt around that area and stay at Outback. I think the next night will be spent around 277, Juno, 90, etc. I'd really really like to get an alterna so i can check it off my lifelist. Plus, I've also never found bairdi or pictigaster. So, stop by and say hi if you see me and Max. I drive an 06 orange-copper Isuzu I-280 (think Chevy Colorado) extended cab. Share some stories of what you've found, etc. Anyone doing anything on Saturday during the day? Troy are you cooking out or something...I thought I read that. Anyway, hope to see some people out there. Good luck everyone...

I ran into max tonight on the 190 cuts I showed him the snake I caught.I hope he catches one tonight. The parents of the snake I caught are out there and I bet they are nice looking. These cuts have produced some nice alterna phase.stay away though there all mine Just kidding I get lonely out there I very rarely see other Hunters.

Bryan, he must be talking about another Max because I don't know him. And no, I didn't find the parents...but I did meet up with an oil worker who took me out to the fields he works that have some real nice cuts that he said he's found alterna on. Unfortunately, it was too cold when we got to them.
Erik, I'll be camping at Devil's river so it looks like there will be two Max's out there this weekend...What are the chances of that? I 'll probably be on 277 most of the weekend. I'll be in a white Tacoma...See ya out there!

I'll look out for you! I think we're wanting to camp out somewhere over there, where exactly can you camp at Devil's River?

Right at Baker's crossing! I'll be out there this weekend too. I'll look for you. Does your cell phone work out there?

Erik - NM May 23, 2007 01:15 PM

I'm not sure if it works. It might though...I don't pay for roaming, so there's a good chance some service tower will pick up my signal. I don't think I have your cell number. Mine is 505.302.1015. Friday night I think the plan is to hunt north, east, and west of Sanderson and just really concentrate on those cuts. Saturday we'll head over to Del Rio and that night hunt along 277 and/or 90.

Hey Joe,

do you have the contact info for staying there? I am thinking about boarding up there once or twice this year. Do you know what they charge per night?

Mike,
I sure don't. It's camping only I'm pretty sure, but I haven't even been up that road in a while. The one and only time I tried to camp there my brother and I got our tents set up and then a norther blew in with winds at 60 mph and wiped out our tents. We got out of there pretty quick after that. Plus at that time I didn't care for the dude that lived at that house (Lester).

If you do camp there then you can fish in the river, and there is some awesome smallmouth right there. I had good luck at night swimming a plastic worm on the surface over the submerged boulders. I hooked a 5 pounder on ultralight gear - WOW!

mike17L May 24, 2007 11:34 AM

If I do camp there you can bet your "donkey" i will not be fishing at night. Perhaps in the day, but at night I have other activities planed, like pairing up one of these girls. if you do find out a contact number id appreceate it.

Here's the link for Devil's River State Natural Area:

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/devils_river/

It's about 22 miles west of Loma Alta on a dirt road. There aren't very many amenities, but it's real nice and there usually isn't a whole lot of people. I went last memorial day weekend and loved it!

Here's the River:

Think of all the GB's that must live here

Max old chap! We will be out in the white Chevy conversion van. We plan to hunt 277, highway 90, pandale dirt, but will not make it as far as Sanderson. Well, we may go out one night for Sanderson. Not sure yet. Hope to see you out there. Oh, bring some money, I will bring my female Mandarin so you can buy her!

The wife and I will be out west also over Memorial Weekend. We will be staying in Del Rio with my good friend Rob Klockman and will be later joined by Robert Edwards. We will be concentrating our efforts in Val Verde County but may travel further west depending on the weather. Christina and I will be in a white Nissan Xterra or in Rob's Jeep Wrangler. Feel free to stop and say hello. Good luck to all.
Nathan

Another note, for those who will be around, according to my good friend Dave Doherty, a group will be meeting for lunch in Mexico on Sunday afternoon.
