Do ratsnake conditions need to be humid?

KatGrrrl Aug 15, 2003 04:02 PM

I read on a website that ratsnakes should be misted daily to keep a higher humidity to help at shedding times. Do all you ratsnake owners mist your snakes? Do I need to mist my grey ratsnake and how should I go about it if I do?

I don't think obsoleta are picky about humidity. Where I live in California, the air in my house is rather dry, about 20% humidity. However, with a water bowl and aspen shavings, the humidity in my black rat's cage is probably higher. In any case she doesn't have any problems shedding. Just provide a large water bowl and a good substrate and you should be fine.

Heep humidity low because it will cause breathing problems and infections.
