My Fea's Flees

Phobos May 23, 2007 12:34 PM

Well these little cuties are much faster than I thought they would be, and very grumpy too. That could be due to Jet lag....

Sorry but due to the lack of good images of this species they are on my protected website, for all to see and not be used without my consent.

great species !!!!! how do you keep it?? do you cool down a cage or room where they are in?? this because I remember reading about t hem that they can´t tollerate temps above 80 degrees?

phobos May 23, 2007 08:37 PM

Yes, Cold and wet is the way to keep them. I currently maintain them about 20 to 25c on a very wet substrate.

Never did I think I would see this species pop up in a private collection. I'm not even going to ask how you managed this one Al

Doesn't matter what you know, it's who you know.

Ah, as usual I suppose. If you don't mind me asking, how many specimens were you able to obtain?

Chance,
Fea's are available several times a year from Bushmaster Reptiles. I have seen them priced at $350.00 - 375.00.

Hmm, maybe I've just been out of the loop for too long. Time to correct that though!

Chance,
Alan and Susan Hunter tried their hand at these almost ten years ago and publicized their results.
They were available to the public even back then. Just nobody knew enough to be able to keep them alive. They just aren't "mainstream" and you rarely see them.

Well Karl, you learn something new every day it seems. Thank you for the information. Did the SHHS store the information the Hunters gathered (no pun intended)? I just stumbled back across Susan's Hemachatus article yesterday evening, and it was written in 2000, so is there an archive I've overlooked?

Awesome Al!! It's great to see you try to work with this species. Let me know how it goes (and let me know if you end up having any surplus!). Rob
