dragon tail drop

demondrvn May 21, 2003 04:42 PM

one of my 3-year old female beardeds dropped its tail in its cage the other night. i was wondering if beardies will re-grow their tails. also, maybe someone could tell me why it may have dropped it. she is housed with one male and one female in a 5'x5'x4 enclosure. i have been keeping bearded for 6 years now and they are all thriving, i was curious because i have never had one drop its tail before. thanks

I didnt know they could drop their tail, this is the first time I have heard of this? Are you sure one of the others didnt bite it off? Is it a clean break?

That's weird... everything I've read said that beardies don't drop and regrow their tails. I've never heard of anything like that before. Keep us posted, I'm extremely curious to hear if it grows back or not.

Their tails don't fall off for no reason. There was either an injury or a bad shed that cut off circulation. When circulation is cut off the tail dies, so I doubt that happened because it turns black.
My guess is either something fell on it or it was bitten. It won't grow back.

I think I have heard that they can drop their tales. It is not nearly as easily done as with geckos, but I do think it can happen. They do not grow back. I have heard that they will drop tails if they are grabbed by the tail and can't escape. The way they drop them is also different, they do not have the usual tail vertebrae that others do that allow them to drop their tails.

I called him, he said "NO!" they do not lose their tail.he said your female had to have had her tail #1.bitten off (but you said it was a clean break or #2. The tail was PULLED off. Sorry but the tail will not grow back

How is she doing now?
