All shed, and ready for the camera....

thebigsquease May 23, 2007 05:33 PM

Well, I'm not saying they are red axanthic, and het red axanthics, but boy, are they pretty.
Some background info on the clutch. Mother is a WC imported female that laid a clutch of 8 eggs on 2-26-07. She weighed 2,200 grams. She is a black back animal.
The clutch is one ** axanthic looking female ** two black backs, male and female, and five normal(??) females. 1.7
All have shed, and taken their first meal of a baby rat.
First thing I noticed on this clutch is, they are very aggresive! Constantly striking at anything that moves. Even in a sitting postion, they will strike at the camera while I am taking pictures. So un-ball like. I've been bitten a 1/2 dozen times by them already.
So, here are some pictures.
First one is of the axanthic looking female with one of her siblings.

The pair of black backs.

The five female siblings. They all have the exact belly pattern......clear bellies...... the siblings are all bright with flames and clear bellies....

axanthic belly:

a belly of one of the siblings:

I'm open to any thoughts that any one wants to throw out there.
Again, I'm not stating these are Red Axanthics and het reds, but maybe a new line of them? With getting one male het (well, a male at least) I can't wait to raise this clutch up and start breeding him back to all his sisters!

Thanks

really cool and what clutch from a wc

btw, my wc's babies just hatched and wow are they aggressive too. Like nothing i've ever seen in ball pythons. Striking at anything

more like baby carpet pythons than balls

my first impression was you have a red axanthic project going. I cant wait to see how this unfolds!

Awww - they look nice!!!

IMO just forget the whole "possible Red Axanthic" thing - avoid the controversy and let them be a unique morph in their own right - give them a cool name - in the long run you'll be much better off.

Wouldn't that be like calling a goose a Crane? Or a dog a fox?
I mean, if it is actually a red axanthic, shouldn't it be called that? What is everyone's thoughts? If I do prove these out to be a proven morph, wouldn't it muddy up the water?
I would love to hear from others, what they think.
Thanks

but didn't Corey Woods reply to your first post stating that they do not look like het reds. So there you go, that opens up the door for a new morph. And even if they prove out to be similar to another established morph, so what. How many lines of pastels are there. Also look at the Cinny and Blacks or the Lesser and the Butter. They are close enough to each other to raise questions, but still have their own names. But thats just my oppinion.

keep an open mind about this project. I emailed you some of the snakes im tinkering with a while back (pestebum ), its hard to label something with unknown genetics, your best bet is to hold onto most, if not all the babies and cross them to proven lines and see if they are compatible bloodlines. Very cool snakes regardless wouldnt mind looking at those on a daily basis. No matter what you have something very cool and you should aknowledge them as your own F1 line

Wow, those things are so cool!

And Ron, I do say it looks like a Red Axanthic. I guess the best way to tell would be to breed your het-red with another line of het-reds, or your "mysteriously red-axanthic looking" ball to another line of Reds.

Good luck with them, I think they are sweet, and I'd love details on pricing

there, Ron. Haha. I don't know how anyone with a sense of sight could discredit those as not looking EXACTLY like proven red axanthic lines, only better, in most cases. You have some incredible luck. I can't wait to see what you end up with next year. Congratulations man.

Now, don't go jinxing me! No way will I bat three for three...... or will I?
Just when everyone is boo hooing on the Ball market, and the crashing of prices.... I am having a ball....... It's all about enjoying the hobby and all the great people that work with these animals. Believe, it wouldn't be half the fun, without all the support and priase from my peers.
I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else is going to produce this year. It only gets better and better......

I'm having a blast myself this year. Keep having a "ball". That's what it's all about.
