Hey Mabeard, I have a baby Gopher that's less than a year old. He has eaten six pinkies now, and still no defication(after about 2 weeks...or longer). Is it possible that he is constipated. I have tried running luke-warm water over him, but still nothing.
I am not sure if he has digested them completely or not, but he always seeks and stays in the coolest hide-space in the terrarium.
Other than that he is acting normal, and seems healthy.
Mabeard, If I find a solution, I'll let ya know.
Hey,,,I was feeding Seth fuzys, then I aquired some baby drawf hampsters about the size of hoppers. Gave him one live and froze the rest. I have a suspicion he got worms or something from that live one, and I'm wondering if the frozen one's are safe to give him. This last time he spent four days in a warm spot then retreated to the coolist spot for five days now. I never feed him till after he has deficated. His irritability may have been due to the volume at which my sterio was at...Mark
Mabeard, if you are pretty sure that he has digested the meal, try soaking him in luke warm water for about 20-25 minutes. I just soaked mine and after about 5 minutes he deficated in the water. Make sure the container of water can tighly close, and make sure it isn't so deep that he exhausts himself from trying to swim....make sure he can touch the bottom.
I am not sure if mine deficated both meals, but I will try again tomorrow just in case.
Let me know if that works for ya(him).

Could also be the type of music you listen to. LOL!
Seriously, though, I think both of ya'll need to double-check, triple-check, both the hot end & cool end temps. Temperature plays a big part in digestion. "mabeard," I believe this could be at least part of your problem.
While you're at it, check the humidity level, too.
What are ya'll using for substrate?
KingCobra,
Did your snake eat those 6 pinkies at one feeding or over several feedings? I feel that just running warm water over them isn't good enough. I'd get a sweater-type box (one of those plastic storage boxes) and put about 1/2-inch of slightly warm water in it, put the lid on it, and let it soak for about an hour or so.
Keep checking on it to make sure the snake doesn't get relaxed or too tired and lay its head underwater. You'll also have to add more warm water to it a time or tw to keep the water temp up. I usually set the boxes in a tub with several inches of water the same temp.
Hang in there!

It is said that 1 out of every 4 people are mentally unbalanced. Think of your 3 closest friends, if they're normal, then it's you.
Thanks for your concern Hillbilly. I placed the snake in an Ice-cream bucket, it had a little bit more than just 1/2" of warm water in it, but it did the trick.
the six pinkies were consumed throughout several feedings, so he may not have passed all of them yet. I am going to try again tomorrow in case he needs time to digest anything still.
I think he's going to be alright.
So it pooped while soaking? Either way, glad to hear that you think its gonna be OK.
Take care!

Soak it in about 1/2" deep water for 10 minutes. Hydration is key to the process. You can keep the snake in a dry cage if you soak it occasionally.

Hi, I live in New Jersey and want to know where I can find snakes. in my yard...I figured in the wood-pile, under large wood, along my ravine under Brush piles, sticks, and leaf-litter. It's quite hot here already today its 90 degrees...=) BUT I CANT FIND ANY SNAKES!! MY FRIEND FOUND QUITE A FEW [NOT IN MY YARD] AND I HAVNT!! UGH! well, im having good luck with finding Green Frogs and bull frogs in my ravine, common toads, Eastern spadefoot toads.
Thanks for helping!!
I have two snakes that do this:
Grace, one of my Tx. bullsnakes shown here, can take sometimes about 10-14 days to defecate.

Charlotte, my snow southern pine, can take sometimes two weeks and over.

Of course, I have wondered many times why it takes a while for them to defecate, and honestly, I don't know the answer. This is what they have always done since I have owned them. Their temps are fine, and all that, but now recently, they are defecating quicker with bigger meals.
Now, I will stress that I am not one in the trend of trying to feed my snakes something absolutely huge, but with these two snakes, I barely upped the size of the food prey and it has seemed to somewhat make defecation quicker. You do have to be careful and not be ridiculous in the sizes of the prey, as pits can go downhill quite fast when it comes to regurging, so use caution. But, regarding these two snakes...still, they take longer than any other of my snakes.
I wouldn't worry about it though with your bullsnake. Some snakes defecate 2-3 days after eating, some take longer as in these two examples, but remember, they can be individuals in so many ways and also in varying degrees of physical issues as well.
