Ever able to tell when slugs are coming?

RyanT May 23, 2007 10:35 PM

My biggest female is 24 days POS. She doesn't look very bulky. I can feel masses inside of her. I think at the most she'll just take longer than 30 days to lay. Probably just her body mass being so much that it hides the eggs to some degree. Like when a 400 pound human is pregnant and you have no clue. But I was wondering when a female has dropped a bunch of slugs, did you realize in hindsight that you could tell while she was gravid, because she was maybe oddly not as "good" gravid looking? This is a topic that isn't brought up too often.

I am having the same problem with my female python... I am not sure whats up. 12 days past u can feel them and see outlines when coiled. and she took food today I am assuming if she was preg then she isnt now.... I am not sure what to expect.

Most of the time if you lightly palpate the female after she has gone through her pre lay you can feel smaller masses and larger ones the smaller ones normally turn out to be slugs. After awhile you get the hang of it and can be pretty spot on You can also see them on an ultrasound machine.

I have seen many females reabsorb folicules but never fully developed eggs. If she has done a pre lay shed and was gravid she will lay them. Folicules you can not see bulging out the side of a female you can only see the shape of actuall eggs, so i would say if you saw some type of outline and she has shed already just be patient.

Thank you! I am trying to be patient but that is easier said then done

it is hard, but be patient. Don't worry about her eating. I had one last year that ate one small rat ever other week right up to the 3 days before she laid a healthy clutch of 5!

According to the Barker video, if you can feel the individual lumps, slugs are in your future. If it feels like a solid mass, you'll be going to one to give thanks.
