O/T pics for Bob, Leopard hets and hypo

miloradovich May 24, 2007 02:33 PM

Bob, here are pics of my new sub adult Leopard hets that you asked about. You asked about markers for Leopard and the interesting thing with Leopards is that all the hets seem to show pattern abberancies. I am not sure though if this can be used to accurately pick possible hets or not. I don't know if the abberant het parents will produce abberant non carriers and hets or just normal patterned normals and abberant hets. I'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Here is the male

The Female, she has a nice stripe on her neck. Not real evident in the photo but I like the close up, it shows the contrast in the head pattern well.

I got these two from Ted at Susquehanna Ecotherms and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. Ted answered my emails and questions promplty, made the transaction go very smoothly and shipped quickly.

Since I am showing Sonorans, here is my male Hypo Sonoran. I got this guy from Adam Chesla, another awsome person to buy from.

Next here are a few picture of the female that I posted during the "headlights" discussion. You had asked if I had any other pics and I found a few of her, unfortunately none of them show the eyes real well.

Pre-shed, I really liked her pattern right off the bat. Some of her saddles reminded me of bandit masks. A few of the siblings in this litter really stood out from Birth too. I also had a couple of striped tailed hypos and a really colorful normal girl in the litter.

After the first shed

And a more recent pic as a yearling for comparison.

Enjoy the pics, Milo

and check out the dark facial markings on yours kind of like a mustache to some degree and I believe that is the het marker for leopards but I could be wrong but check out this post by Celia on the boa forum if you didn't catch it and look at their head markings

I like that hypo Sonoran too and I have really started liking those dwarf boas a lot and wish I had an endless supply of money for an anery sonoran, nic t-pos, blood boa (from VPI) and some hypo nics or a ghost hell and an albino Leopard or hypo Leopard if there is such a thing (I know not yet but those will be eye-catching). Those bloody albinos and sunglows are going to unbelievable but then again they are intergrades but no one seems to care about that aspect of it but they are admiring the true beauty of the snakes in question so I have no problem about that cuz it is all about the snakes. What are your thoughts on mixing the dwarfs with the other bci's Jason? I just love beautiful snakes so I guess I can go with these creations especially after seeing Rich's post about his sharp sunglows with some blood influence and OMG!!! Take out a mortgage on the house cuz I want one lol. Maybe one day I will acquire some dwarfs but I just don't think it will be no time soon. As for the hypo, I am not sure but she sure is hot though and those saddles are off the chain and very much to my liking. Thanks for posting and sorry for rambling.
Bob

Bob, you've got the hookup for posts I've missed, lol. I always enjoy when Celia posts because the pictures are always hands down fantastic. I absolutely love those T+'s.
You pretty much just listed a huge part of my dwarf wish list. Be forwarned though, the dwarfs really seem to grow on you and become addictive. (Of course all boas seem to do just that)
Your right too, Rich's sharps het blood are incredible. I would like to get bloods and I really like the bloody salmons but have you noticed that the normal bloods from these litters seem to muddy up? For this reason I want to get some pure locality bloods. That said, I cannot wait to see the bloody sunglows.
When it comes to intergrades and locality crosses, I have mixed feelings. I personally like alot of them and think that you can get great animals from mixes that you won't have other wise. One thing that I think is important though, is that the animals from crosses always be represented for what they are. You should hear some die hard rosy guys on the topic of locality crosses. A lot of these localities will get down to very specific locations (certain roads things like that) and people don't want them crossed. My personal feeling is that snakes don't care where we set county lines and borders and without natural boundries there has to be some amount of natural intergration. Take my snow rosys for example, they are from a White Water albino to a Borrego anery. White Water and Borrego really aren't all that far apart from what I understand but these are not considered pure. Now, without the cross, I would be without the snows. A lot of great things can come from crosses. I just really don't like when people will call an animal what it's not to make it easier to sell.
Sorry I kinda ranted and did my own rambling there for a minute.

Back to crosses, check these two out.

The female is an 05 50/50 albino argentine.
The male is an 06 Salmontine with 87.5% aregentine blood.
I think there is huge potential there for the sunglows that could potentially be produced from these two crosses. Can you say, red?

I gotta get back to work. I've been slacking again today.
Talk to you later, Milo

That albino cross looks very good and the salmontine looks even redder I mean better My question is why does that albino cross have a good bit of red on the tail rather than orange and I'm pretty familiar with argentines being that my friend has one. That salmontine is pretty darn red if I had to say so myself and it is still very young too. Oh yeah what are feeding that albino cuz she looks biiiiiig in the pic almost gravid I think but she is only an '05 and looks chunky. Since the both have a good amount of red on them, that would lead me to believe that argentines carry more red than I first thought. My friend with the argentine keeps referring to his snake as having a red-tail but it looks reddish-orange to me and since it is encased with black over it since they are very dark it just makes me think even more that they are orange and the overlying black makes them look darker. That albino also has some nice subtle pinks and lavenders coming in and did you catch the post showing some lavender colored albinos? Here you go if you didn't catch the posts

and

Those colors are truly amazing on an albino. What I truly like about the argentines are the high saddle count and those put onto a Salmontine like you have just makes it look better so until next time Jason take care
Bob

p.s. one more thing-are your dwarfs friendly or what?

miloradovich May 24, 2007 04:45 PM

I did catch those posts, the lavenders are neat looking.
I think you hit the nail on the head. I belive (opinion, don't quote me) that most of the argentines have reds that are hidden by their large amount of black. Maybe there is some dark brown with the black to give some the orange coloration. But look at how much pink some of neonates have. I just think it gets covered up as they darken.
The female is about 4 to 4.5 feet right now. I think she must have just eaten in the pic becuase she does look big. Part of its the angle too. She has an awsome feeding response. She has never missed a meal even in full blue. She is easy to shoot pics of in her cage, but out she likes to try to eat my camera when it flashes. Thats why I don't have any good pics of her on a nice background like you've probably noticed I like to do.
The salmontine is very red in person. I love it. I thought some of my salmons looked red, no way. They all look orange in comparison to him. Did you ever see the pics that Jeremy Stone posted of the litter when they were born? There were some real red ones. I was watching for a possible super salmontine to go with the 50/50 female but had to get him for the project instead. I can't wait to breed those two.

This is a neat part of the females pattern. My Fiancee's 4 year old niece decided she is her favorite now because of her heart. (My anery rosys no longer have top billing) I posted this pic around Valentines day on the Boa Forum so you might have seen it.

Oh, yeah the few dwarfs are pretty calm. I have Columbians that are much more aggressive. I have only been bitten by one dwarf, one time.

Jeremy or don't remember it but I keep up with the boa forum religiously though. I even check his blog quite often to read up on his litters since he hasn't posted any in the available section yet but I just try to learn what to look for in the QUALITY department since I am going to pick up a few in a couple years or so. I plan on getting a het coral from Dave next year and I might go and get a coral albino from Pete or maybe the Burkes but I really want something real real nice though. Maybe a poss. super ghost from Dave along with an anery het albino but I really like the silver and black anery especially with the black tail though so I am crossing my fingers on that one.

Check out Jeremy's blog page 5 I believe show the litter that my Salmontine came from. They were produced from a 75% Salmontine to a pure Argentine. The non-hypos look like pure Argentines.

I would like some real high coral, corals myself. I have an ablino het snow that has some coraling going on but not what I would call a "true coral".
As for Aneries, I really like the black tails over the lighter ones. The more solid the better. I requested an animal like this when I got my Anery het snow from Frank Martin and now at 3 years old she still has a deep rich black tail. Franks got some really nice stuff and enough variety that he can get you exactly what you are searching for in the looks department.

Thanks, I am pretty stoked to have them here. They look even better than I had hoped.
